Meet Pooh Bear 'Pig'

Pooh Bear was my very first pig when I was 11, she was a gift from a petshop where I spent my saturdays cleaning cages. She was a tri-colored crested silkie(maybe?), but I would trim her hair down in the summer time, shown in the picture. She was very young when I got her, only 5 weeks old. Sadly, she passed over the rainbow bridge just shy of her second birthday, she passed on quietly in my arms, she was a great guinea pig!

Carmelita 'Lita'

Carmelita came home from Pet Supplies Plus on October 5, 2001. Even tho she's a mutt, the closets breed I have found her to be is an American Short hair, Red Dutch. She was so tiny and so cute I couldn't resist. I hadn't had a guinea pig in over 6 years and thought it was time to get another. She was the last one in a little aquarium and I felt the NEED to grab her and take her home! She's a great pet, loves to be held, streches out on my chest and we fall asleep watching tv together. She loves floor time and wanders all over the living room trying to find the hidden veggies.

Galaxie 'Lexie'

Galaxie was brought home from a local petshop on January 28, 2002.She is an american short hair, self black with a few brown flec's on her underside. I wanted to get a friend for Carmelita since I would be going into the hospital for a couple weeks and wouldn't be able to spend any time with her. I went to the place I got Lita and they didn't have any guinea pigs at that time. So I looked in the phone book and found this store down the street. They specialize in fish, but her 14 year old son breeds guinea pigs and gives them to her to sell... this should have been my first warning, but I went ahead and got her anyhow... She's a great guinea pig but she just started a bunch of vet bills for me from day one, first was lice, then mites, a URI, and a pregnancy. Once all cured, she's a GREAT addition to my family and the babies arrived on March 1, 2002! Lexie is the most calm of all my guinea pigs, loves to have her chin rubbed!

Here are a few pictures of Lexie just 2 days before giving birth to three lovely baby cavies!

The Babies

These are Lexie's babies, they were born on March 1, 2002 starting at 11:30 am. I was so lucky to be able to witness the birth!First out was a sow I named Oreo, then was a sow named Jillian, and last their brother Bear.

Here are a few pictures of them sortly after birth.

Oreo 'Rio'

Oreo was born at 11:30am, she is a black american short haired broken with white. She's a little momma's girl and doesn't like to leave Lexie's side for too long. She's a great little girl and is growing up fast!

Jillian 'Jilly'

Jillian was born second, she's an American short hair all black with some brown flec's on her side. She a noisey little one and likes to talk the whole time she's out running for floor time. She a little bully at her sister, but doesn't hurt her.

Lil Bear

Lil Bear was the baby of the three, born last at 11:55 he was also the largest of the three! He's an american short hair tortishell. Sadly, having four girls now he would be the only male and would have to live alone so I took him to Michigan to live with someone who I came to know and like on a guinea pig forum. She has a big herd, as I type this she has 7 sows and 3 boars with Bear. He's in great hands and I get to see new pictures of him often! She tells me he's a talker too, won't shut up when she's petting him!

Charlene 'Charla'

Charla(pronounced Sharla), is my newest additon. I just brought her home on April 26, 2002. She's a 7 week old red Abbysian broken with a small amount of white on her back leg and underside. She came from the same place that I got Lexie so I could very well have a pregnant guinea pig on my hands again. I went in there to look, with no intent to buy, but she fit the criteria I was looking for in a new little girl. She is in quarentine for 3 weeks, I treated her for any fungal problems she may have, mites, and lice. I hope to get her all good and well before her three weeks is up so she can meet the rest of my herd! Pigtures of her will come soon!

Here are a few other pictures of the girls!
